Marie Nicolson Papers, 1938-1975.

The collection primarily consists of a series of scrapbooks documenting the activities of the Tulip Study Club in Atlanta. Also included in the collection is correspondence pertaining to club activities, and Mrs. Nicholson's involvement with the club and various civic organizations within the Southeastern region. Mrs. Nicholson also created a series of cards revealing the growth cycle of the tulip and poster cards with examples of tulip varieties. The contents of the collection provide a comprehensive history of the Tulip Study Club in Atlanta and the efforts of Mrs. Nicholson to promote, nationally and internationally, the cultivation of tulips.

Marie Stern(e) Nicholson (18 June 1894-20 June 1975), born in Richmond, Virginia, became known as the "Tulip Lady" in Atlanta. Mrs. Nicholson, previously know as Marie Sterne, married James T. Nicholson, a member of the board of directors of Woolworths. Marie and James Nicholson had three children: James J. (b. 1918), Mary M. (b. 1921), and Frances W. (b. 1923).
