Detroit Councilman Nicholas Hood was born on June 21, 1923 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University in 1945, a Masters of Arts Degree from Yale University in 1946, and did graduate work in sociology at Wayne State University. Nicholas and Elizabeth Flemister married in 1949. Elizabeth worked as an associate professor at Wayne State University with a Ph.D. in educational sociology. They had four children.
