John W. Teter papers, 1942-1979.

Description: Papers of a University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee (UWM) professor who served as a faculty member, department head, and acting dean of UWM's School of Social Welfare and its predecessor institutions. Most of the collection dates from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s. The collection is notable for filling gaps in the official records of the School, especially during the early 1960s. The majority of the collection consists of miscellaneous records created or compiled by Teter, filed chronologically under the name of the School and its predecessors. The records document the early development of the social work education program, notably the evolution of the curriculum and the establishment of an independent School of Social Welfare. Also contains files on the development of a PhD degree, and minutes and background materials of various curriculum committees and committees concerning the organization and structure of the School.
