Charles Augustus Lindbergh (February 4, 1902 – August 26, 1974) was an American aviator, military officer, author, inventor, and activist. At the age of 25 in 1927, he went from obscurity as a U.S. Air Mail pilot to instantaneous world fame by winning the Orteig Prize for making a nonstop flight from New York City to Paris. Crede Haskins Calhoun (1885-1972) worked as a journalist in Panama. He first came to the Panama Canal in 1907 to work as a postal clerk and after a brief return to the U.S. for college, he worked as a reporter for the Panama "Star & Herald" from 1911-1920, the New York "Herald Tribune" from 1920-1926 and the New York "Times" from 1926-1952.
