The collection consists mainly of television scripts written by Coon with accompanying outlines and treatments. There are also a small amount of correspondence, screenplays, a play and miscellaneous other writings of Coon's including a memoir of the television series "Star Trek," authored by fellow "Star Trek" writer David Gerrold.

David Gerrold, science fiction writer, was born in Chicago, Ill. and earned a B.A. from California State U. (Northridge). Coon (1924-1973) was a television writer and producer. Early in his career he worked as a radio correspondent and journalist and also as a free-lance writer. Around 1954 Coon began writing for television. He worked with Universal City Studios and became head writer and producer for the new projects department, where he was responsible for the creation and development of new television series.
