Lewis H. Bowen (1910-1977) worked as a financial reporter for the "New York Herald Tribune" from 1935-1936, the "U.S. News" (later "U.S. News and World Report") from 1936-1937 and the "New York Journal of Commerce" from 1937-1938. On December 2, 1905, Mrs. Tunis G. Bergen brought together a group of Brooklyn residents at the Barnard Club House on Remsen Street to form New York City's first borough-based Red Cross organization.
