Courage, [1916-1917].

Holograph manuscript, in pencil, of the short story, Courage. It consists of eight leaves and contains McCutcheon's edits. The story concerns a wounded World War I soldier recalling his battle experiences, while recuperating in a French military hospital. The last page is signed and dated, December 23, 1917; however, a note at the beginning of the story says it was started December 20, 1916 and completed December 22. A typescript of the original story is included. Also present is a letter from McCutcheon to Jas. H. Manning [?] of Albany, New York, regarding the donation of this manuscript to his collection.
