Letter: Durham, [N.H.], to Nicholas Gilman, [Exeter, N.H.?], 1790, May 4.

A one page letter in which John Sullivan, governor of New Hampshire, supported the assumption of state debts by the federal government. Gilman openly opposed the assumption of state debts. Sullivan, who simultaneously served as judge for the U.S. District Court of New Hampshire, also thanked Gilman for expediting his salary payment. Accompanied by a typewritten transcript of the letter.
