Description: records of the department chair include brochures, correspondence, and department and executive committee meeting minutes. The correspondence files (1956-1973) largely consist of correspondence between the department chair and the Dean and Associate dean of the College of Letters & science, documenting staffing, budget, special events, course and curriculum developments, including the development of a graduate program in French and the proposal for a major in Italian. The department minutes (1957-1988) contain similar information regarding staff appointments and promotions, course offerings and teaching assignments, enrollment, and other announcements and matters of concern.
