The Monitor had four captains during the time this logbook was written: John Lorimer Worden (20 January - 9 March 1862), Samuel Dana Green (10 March 1862), Thomas Oliver Selfridge, Jr. (10-13 March 1862), and William Nicholson Jeffers (13 March - 15 August 1862).
