Stillman collection of Francis family papers, 1684-1912.

Correspondence, legal and estate records, religious writings, tax records, sermons, deeds, militia records, household and business account books and bills and receipts, commonplace books, embroidery patterns, family histories and notes, and school exercises of members of a Wethersfield, Connecticut, family. Of note are several apprenticeship agreements dated 1747 and 1788, and estate records of Robert Francis, 1777, Elizabeth Francis, 1789, and Walter Francis, 1834. James Hanmer Francis, son of carpenter James Francis, studied at Yale and among his papers are sermons, diaries, and a variety of religious writings. Walter Francis sold books in Maine and was a peddler in Georgia before his early death. A significant proportion of the collection consists of letters written to Jane Clarissa Francis and Elizabeth Pamela Goodrich Stillman from family and friends. Other Francis family members represented in the collection are Maria Francis, John Francis, Sarah Russel, Ann M. Francis, and Pamela Francis. Also includes papers related to members of the Welles, Goodrich and Stillman families, most notably James R. Goodrich's commonplace book, letters from Frank Goodrich while serving in the Civil War, and correspondence, writings, and memoranda books kept by Mary Ann Welles Goodrich.
