The materials in this collection relate to the professional career and private life of James C. Olson and his family. Includes materials re: classes taken at Morningside College and University of Nebraska, research and writing of M.A. thesis and Ph. D. dissertation, writing of articles and scholarly books, courses taught, duties in armed services, personal diaries and appointment calendars, association and organization memberships, meetings, tenure as chancellor of UMKC and presidency of University. Also contains personal professional correspondence, including that with Vera B. Farrington (who became his wife in 1941), as well as her return correspondence to him and correspondence to their parents. A collection of newsclippings and articles covers his professional career from 1942 to 1968. There is a small amount of Olson family memorabilia, including postcards and photos ca. 1906-1943 and a botanical specimen book made by Olson's mother, A.A. Olson, in 1905.
