Papers, 1848-1865.

Consists of papers of James H. Wilson, Jr., most of which relate to his military service. Included are letters about routine military matters while Wilson served as 2nd Lt., 1st U.S. Infantry, at Fort McIntosh, Texas in 1851; a letter accepting promotion to 1st Lt., 6th U.S. Infantry, 1851; a letter from his parents, James H. Wilson, Sr. and Emeline M. Wilson, written to their son at West Point, 1848; two pages of a letter from his father admonishing him not to go into debt or deal with Yankees, undated; his 1865 oath of allegiance to the United States, given at Franklin, Tennessee; and an 1856 letter of introduction for Wilson written by J.K. Duncan. Wilson served as a colonel in the Confederate army in an Arkansas regiment.
