Papers of Samuel Storrow kept as a member of the 44th and 2nd Mass. Volunteer Infantry Regiments during the Civil War. While with the 44th from Oct. 1862 - May 1863, Storrow served in the North Carolina campaign with action at Newberne, Rawle's Mill, Whitehall, and the siege of Little Washington. While with the 2nd from Sept. 1864 - Mar. 1865, he participated in Sherman's march through Georgia and the Carolinas until his death at Averysboro, N.C. on 16 Mar. 1865. The papers contain his letters home and 3 diaries, the latter kept from 31 Jan. - 19 Apr. 1863, 26 Sept. 1864 - 26 Feb. 1865, and Jan. - Mar. 1865, including notes on fortifications and procedures. The papers also include his diary of a trip to Fayal, the Azores (31 May - 21 July 1862); and a few papers of his father Charles S. Storrow, a Lawrence, Mass. engineer.
