Journal of Belcher's journey from London to the Netherlands, including an encounter with a privateer and stops in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague, to Hannover, Prussia (now Germany), Halberstadt, Hamburg, and Berlin, and his return to London, kept from 8 July - 5 Oct. 1704. The diary contains entries describing the sights and his meetings with royalty and also includes advice to travellers going to Germany, the advantages and disadvantages to travelling, and accounts of his expenses.

Jonathan Belcher was born on January 8, in 1681 or 1682, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Andrew and Sarah Belcher. In 1746, upon hearing about Governor of New Jersey Lewis Morris's poor health, Belcher actively pursued the opportunity for another royal appointment.
