Scrapbook of newspaper clippings, letters, tickets, programs, etc., about the Champlain Tercentenary Celebration, 1909. Collected and arranged by Horace W. Bailey, one of the Tercentenary commissioners in Vermont. Also includes clippings about the controversy surrounding Bennett H. Young's being invited to be a Tercentenary speaker at St. Albans. Bennett was one of the Confederates involved in the St. Alban's raid of 1864.

Samuel de Champlain of Brouage, cartographer, explorer, and founder of Canada. Champlain discovered Mount Desert Island in 1604. He also laid the foundation of what became the first permenent French colony in America at Quebec.
