Letter and essay, 1842.

Consists of a letter from Samuel Miller Edgar to Dr. W.P.C. Barton, President, Navy Medical Board, in which Edgar gives an autobiographical sketch, including an account of his medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Also included is an essay entitled "The Geology of Tennessee and Kentucky," written by Edgar at the University in 1842.

Zaccheus Collins was a merchant and botanist. From the guide to the Zaccheus Collins botanical correspondence, 1805-1827, 1805-1827, (American Philosophical Society) William Paul Crillon Barton, navy surgeon and botanist, was born in Philadelphia on 17 Nov. 1786 to William and Elizabeth (Rhea) Barton.
