Revolutionary War orderly book kept by Capt. Ephraim Stearns of Nathaniel Wade's Regiment of the Mass. Militia, at West Point (N.Y.) from 28 July - 28 Sept. 1780. The book contains copies of orders issued at the garrison, brigade, and regimental levels. Garrison orders concern Benedict Arnold taking command at West Point on 3 Aug. 1780, an edict against crossing the Hudson River after dark, and the formation of a detachment of light infantry. Brigade and regimental orders concern the initial movement of Wade's troops from Great Barrington (Mass.) to West Point, daily guard or fatigue assignments, and courts-martial. On 25 Sept. 1780, Arnold's treason became known and deployment orders were issued on 26 Sept. to reinforce forts and redoubts. The vol. also contains a roster and return of Capt. Stearns' company.
