Marion County court records, including some cases that were handled by the law firm of Calvin Fletcher and Ovid Butler. Suits and documents deal with naturalization, mainly German and Irish; estates; and bankruptcy. Also included are suits by the State Bank of Indiana after the panic of 1837; a protest over the construction of the Central Canal; a land suit by Vincennes University; a suit by John A. Beal to force Governor Oliver P. Morton to give him a seat on the bench; and a set of plans by Noah Leverton for a covered market house. The collection shows the type of business that came before the court in its first four decades. Most are civil cases.
