Correspondence, typescripts, clippings, and other papers re Aull's interest in S.C. history and politics, including his work for and on behalf of Gov. Cole Blease; S.C. politics during early 20th century; the Dispensary riot in Darlington, S.C., 1894; Benjamin R. Tillman; U.S. presidential campaign of 1928; and possible repeal of prohibition. Includes correspondence and scrapbooks re Coleman Livingston Blease's term as governor (1911-1915), his campaign, election, and term in the U.S. Senate (1925-1931), and the governorship of Richard Irvine Manning (1915-1919); correspondents include James Henry Rice, John L. McLaurin, and Strom Thurmond, whose letter of 3 Dec. 1929, requested that Aull discuss with the governor the case of O'Neal Sprouse, a prisoner. Letters re S.C. history discuss flight of Jefferson Davis and his cabinet members through S.C. during Civil War; letter, 1 Apr. 1929, from John [D. Long], Washington, D.C., re William A. Nicholson, a doctor who served in the hospital on USC campus in 1865; letter, 10 Mar. 1931, from Lucy Rion Clark, Pierce, Fla., re disappearance of John C. Calhoun papers which had been in possession of her father and unpublished biography of JCC by William Pinckney Starke. Also includes script of radio address delivered by Aull, 17 Dec. 1930, on 70th anniversary of S.C.'s vote for secession; and text of essay published in the Augusta Herald, 27 Apr. 1930, discussing merger of Chicora College of Columbia, S.C., with Queens College in Charlotte, and implications of the abandonment for the Hampton-Preston house; Aull discusses history of the house and his hopes that it may be preserved.
