The collection consists of land grants for rights of way deeded to the railroad by Pierce, King, and Thurston counties in Washington State, 1871; reports from a Tacoma, Washington, engineer to the company president about mines at Wilkeson, Washington; letters containing construction bids for a Northern Pacific building in Seattle, 1904; a 1912 volume containing time reports for the remodeling of Pier #1 (Yesler Wharf) in Seattle; and microfilm reels loaned for copying from the Northern Pacific Railway Company and the Minnesota Historical Society concerning the St. Paul and Tacoma Lumber Company (1888-1957), Japanese labor performed for the company, and the Northern Pacific Railroad Company land grant act of 1864.
