Chiefly legal papers and correspondence, 1896-1910, of Keating Lewis Simons, III, with Gardner & Lacey Lumber Company, re timber rights, and with legal firms, Frasers & Cooper, Sumter, and Rhame & Davis, Manning, re litigation against E.W. Moise and R.E. Clark for title to and timber rights on swamp lands in Clarendon County claimed by Moise and Clark as part of a plantation called "Indigo Hill." Correspondence, plantation, and business papers of Keating Lewis Simons, II, including estimate [1845?], for cost of labor and materials for a mill to produce lime and to make barrels for shipping the lime; and copy of will, 3 Sept. 1851, Keating Simons, Jr., directing his executors "to prevent my negroes [from] being sold to any notoriously cruel master." Also includes memorandum of agreement, 15 Nov. 1866, between Henry Bischoff, Keating Simons, Jr., and Christopher Gaillard for raising crops on cotton lands furnished by Gaillard and Simons; letter, 11 Oct. 1897, Sumter, Frasers & Cooper, to K. Lewis Simons, Eutawville, re chain of title to Pond Bluff Plantation, once owned by Francis Marion; and letter, 10 July 1913, Orangeburg, Andrew J. Hydrick, to [Keating] Lewis Simons, Eutawville, re settlement with two African Americans whose hogs were killed while trespassing on Simons' land.
