"Ding" Darling (1876-1962) spent the majority of his career working as an editorial cartoonist for the Des Moines Register. Benjamin Shambaugh was born in Elvira, Iowa. He received degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Pennsylvania. He married Bertha M. Horack in 1897.
