Chiefly letters, 1905-1916, of AME minister Johnson William Robinson to his wife, Mary Stowers Robinson at home in Cheraw, S.C., while visiting churches in Clio and McColl (Marlboro County, S.C.); Clinton (Laurens County, S.C.); Heath Springs and Pleasant Hill (Lancaster County, S.C.); and letters, ca. 1920s-1930s, received by his daughter Lucy, from family and friends living in Del Ray Beach, Florida; Englewood, New Jersey; and elsewhere. Letters of Rev. Robinson to his wife frequently inform her of his health and often mention sending small sums of money; letter, 22 Nov. 1915, from Rev. J.W. Robinson, writing from Kershaw, S.C., to his wife, "I will leave for Yorkville tomorrow for Conference and will be home and stay two weeks, if I can, so I can Kill the Hogs or Have them Kill[ed] for you. I did [not] Have any money to send last week. I Had spend some of the [claims] and I Had to Put it back. I did get all of my salary this year." Small undated image of "J.W. Robinson, Pastor" includes caption: "This is to certify that bearer has paid general claim of $1.00" (folder 23) World War I items include 2 postcards and a letter, 1919 from son James, a soldier serving in Co. D, 550th Engineers, American Expeditionary Force, informing his mother of his arrival in France, 17 Feb. 1919, and return to America later that same year. Correspondents include sons Charles Robinson (in Del Ray Beach, Florida); James T. Robinson; D.C. Robinson; and Robert Robinson, and others including Jessie.
