Paul Howard Ezell papers, 1939-1987.

The bulk of the collection consists of the Pima Land Claim Case Files, 1683-1974. This includes correspondence with the law firm of Cox and Cox, and Henry F. Dobyns; also transcripts of the court hearings. Background information, in support of claims by the Pima-Maricopa, includes photocopies of primary source material from the Spanish, Mexican, and American periods. The rest of the collection includes various materials relating to Ezell's work and professional interests: diaries, record books, correspondence with colleagues, published and unpublished reports and articles, reviews, drawings, charts, maps of southern Arizona, microfilms, audiotapes, black-and-white photographs, negatives, and color slides. Interviews are with Paul Ezell, Cyrus Sunn, and Alberto Celaya. Ethnographic items include kinship charts, chronology charts, myths, and tapes of Indian music. Archaeological material encompasses project files from Organ Pipe National Monument and Painted Rocks Reservoir, drawings of red-on-buff decorated pottery from Snaketown, data on Lower Colorado buff ware, and pottery types by site location. Photographic materials depict Indian ceremonies, sites occupied by the Pima-Maricopa Indians, majolica ceramics, and Spanish missions.
