Autograph letters signed from James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps, West Brompton, London, to Charles John Kean [manuscript], 1861-1863.

Letter (1) expresses his criticism of Mr. Fechter in the role of Hamlet, in that he was not suited for Shakespearean characters, and his admiration of Mr. Kean in the same role. (2-3) discuss arrangements for Mr. and Mrs. Kean's readings at St. James' Hall for the benefit of the Shakespeare Fund on June 26, 1863, and quote the resolution of the Committee thanking them for their efforts.
