Papers of Francis Minot Rackemann, 1909-1969 (bulk).

Papers pertain to Rackemann's activities in the Harvard Medical School Alumni Association, especially his work on the Dormitory Committee; to his biography of George Richards Minot; and to his involvement in the Massachusetts Society for Mental Health. Also includes correspondence about the Boston Medical Library and the possibilities of forming an Academy of Medicine in Boston; statistics on Harvard Medical School graduates; Rackemann's student notebooks, 1909-1911; personal financial ledgers; correspondence concerning his allergy research and with a patient about an allergy condition; and other miscellaneous notes and notebooks. Alumni Association material contains correspondence, minutes of committee meetings, clippings, fund raising papers, and manuscript about history of the association. G. R. Minot papers contained in the Rackemann collection include letters from Minot; typescripts, galley, research notes, and correspondence relating to the biography; and reviews of the book.

George Richards Minot (1885-1950), AB, 1908, Harvard College; MD, 1912, Harvard Medical School, was a hematologist and Director of the Thorndike Memorial Laboratory at Boston City Hospital. Minot was also Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research focused on blood and nutrition, and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 1934 for discovering that liver extract cured pernicious anemia.
