Letters written by Thompson from March 1943-July 1945 while serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany during World War II with the U.S. Army Medical Corps. They discuss his basic training at Camp Bowie, Texas, life on board the transport ship crossing the Atlantic, and life in field hospitals. Thompson also mentions sightseeing, living conditions of civilians, and operations performed. The collection gives an excellent picture of life in a field hospital during World War II.
