Letters, documents, and one diary that chronicle Loose's life from the 1840s through 1904. Correspondence topics include the impending violence in Nauvoo against Mormons, Muddy River Mission mill, life in Payson, and polygamy. Significant correspondents include Robert Loose (first husband), Eliza Tenney Cannon (sister), and Warren, William, and Charles Edwin Loose (sons). Also includes correspondence to Robert Loose, chiefly from Andrew and Charles James Loose, and a few letters to other family members. Other documents include an insurance policy; materials relating to the establishment of a school in Payson, Utah in which Loose was to teach; poems, and a biography. The diary details the experiences of the Simons on the Virgin River in southeastern Nevada, establishing a grist mill five miles down river from the town of St. Joseph.

Betsy Jane Tenney was born December 1, 1824 in Hanover, New York to William and Eliza Webb Tenney. In 1834 the Tenney family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Quincy, Illinois where they remained during the 1840s.
