The collection contains materials related to Hummons' professional and community activities. Included are congratulatory telegrams and his funeral program; newspaper clippings; a commemorative 50th anniversary booklet for the Knoxville College class of 1896; and materials from the Hoosier State Medical Association, the Indiana State Medical Association, the Indianapolis Medical Society and the Senate Avenue YMCA. Also included are four photos of Hummons, stored in Visual Collections SC2317.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Hummons graduated from Knoxville College in 1896. He attended Indianapolis Medical School, and began his practice in Indianapolis. He was instrumental in founding a free tuberculosis clinic in Indianapolis in 1919, helped to establish the Senate Avenue YMCA, and is credited as an organizer of the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church.
