Papers of Charles Amory and other members of his family. Includes Civil War papers (1861-63) of his son Lieut. Copley Amory, 4th U.S. Cavalry, with a few other items to his death in 1880; two letters to Charles from John A. Andrew (1861); reminiscences (1869) of Charles's wife Martha B. (Greene) of her childhood home in Boston; letters (1890-91) of Charles to his grandchildren; correspondence of his grandson Copley (1866-1960) with Susan C. Amory concerning family matters; and with Elizabeth A. Ernst, among others, concerning the disposition of Amory family papers. (Cont) Also, typescript and ms. drafts (1942?) of a Franklen family history, apparently never published, by Copley Amory (b. 1890); estate papers (1920-21) of Helen F. Chace, including an inventory of her personal property; and some transcripts of correspondence (1716-25) of Thomas Amory.

Copley Amory (1866-1960) was a member of a family originally from Boston, Massachusetts, of whom three generations took part in expeditions to Greenland, Siberia, and Alaska between 1860 and 1915. Amory, like his father, attended Harvard University. After graduation (1888), he operated a stock and dairy farm at Walpole, New Hampshire.
