The Baptists in Holland Collection documents the development of Baptist doctrine among English Separatists living in Holland during the early seventeenth century. Documents are microfilmed copies of original manuscripts, and microfilm copy of the collection is available in the archives (MF 2091). Materials include articles, confessions of faith, and correspondence, which deals with the conflict between Smyth and the other English Separatists over his doctrine of self-baptism and alignment with the Mennonite tradition. Majority of the collection is in Dutch and Latin with some documents in English.

A group of English Separatists fled to Amsterdam in 1608 to avoid persecution by the Church of England. Led by pastor John Smyth and layman Thomas Helwys, the group began to adopt Baptist doctrines and practices. A split occurred when Smyth baptized himself in accordance with his new belief in self-baptism, and later alinged with the Mennonite church in Amsterdam.
