James Richard Rogers was born in Corning, Ark. in 1926 and enlisted in the Army in 1944. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, had completed three years of high school and working as a sheet metal worker. Rogers joined Company E of the 85th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. He was wounded in action near Mount Torraccia in February 1945.
