Josiah Dillard served as a teacher, principal and institutional instructor. A native of southern Illinois, Mr. Dillard grew up in Stonefort. His father was a Civil War veteran, having served in the 31st Illinois regiment under John A. Logan. Josiah taught at the Stonefort Public School prior to 1893, and served as its principal from 1894 through 1895.
