Manuscript for short story Dear Chinkapin is based on Graham's experiences during her freshman year at TSCW and letters from her parents. The manuscript describes Graham's homesickness during the first few weeks of the term, classes, dorm life, cafeteria meals, and school uniforms. The collection also documents the hardships of farming in West Texas during the Depression years, the family's financial worries, "daily dustings" from sandstorms, and opinions about the Roosevelt administration. The manuscript includes a copy of an original illustration of TSCW campus, 1936, and the collection of letters includes an illustrated cover page.
