Juan Sovano papers, 1835.

Papers of Juan Sovano and his wife Anna, who was formerly married to Antonio Sanchez, include an application to purchase public lands in Assumption Parish submitted to the Land Office of the Southeastern District of Louisiana; a lease of a portion of the lands to Thomas Lyon and his heirs; and an agreement obligating Lyon, who evidently lived on the land prior to its purchase by the Sovanos, to pay the receiver of public monies of Louisiana for the right to inhabit 80 acres of the land. On the reverse of the last document is a statement in French, apparently by Lyon, describing a sequence of annual payments to be made to a "J.A.D." for five years.
