Born 1857 in Boscawen, New Hampshire; died 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. Educated at Dartmouth (B.A. 1877; M.A. 1881) and Union Theological Seminary (1879-1881). Smith worked for Charles Scribner's Sons publishers 1881-1883 and Ginn & Co. 1883-1898 (becoming a partner in 1890); he was Professor of Modern History at Dartmouth 1899-1908. Isaac William Smith was a member of the Dartmouth College Class of 1846. He was admitted to the bar in 1850 and practiced in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 1877, he was appointed an associate justice in the New Hampshire Supreme Judicial Court. He was named a trustee of Dartmouth College in 1885 and held that post until his death. Wheelock Graves Veazey was born in Brentwood, New Hampshire, on December 5, 1835. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1859and went on to study at the Law School at Albany, New York.
