This collection consists mainly of Osborne's writings and notes on American literature of the early national period, especially Washington Irving. Included is Osborne's dissertation (University of North Carolina, 1947) and short articles. There are precis and outlines for other writing projects. Osborne was a long-time member of the USL English Department.

Washington Irving (b. April 3, 1783, New York City-d. November 28, 1859, Sunnyside, Tarrytown, New York), American author, wrote his first popular work, A History of New York, under the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker.
