Edward N. Wentworth papers, 1806-1959 (bulk 1925-1954).

The collection contains the manuscript, research notes and other materials for "America's Sheep Trails"; correspondence, most of which are responses from sheep growers and associations regarding the sheep industry and pioneer sheep growers; the manuscript and research notes for an unpublished history of the horse entitled "Horse, Saddle and Wheels"; book reviews; speeches; miscellaneous materials relating to his work for Armour and Company; book reviews; miscellaneous photographs and slides; and lithographs, watercolors and sketches depicting western scenes and activities. Also contained in the collection are research notes, maps, and the published transcript by Wentworth of a journal kept by Gorham Gates Kimball, who drove a herd of sheep to Idaho from California in 1865.

Edward N. Wentworth (1887-1959) was born in Dover, New Hampshire, and earned an M.S. degree from Iowa State College in 1909 in animal husbandry. He was a professor at Iowa State College and Kansas State College before serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Field Artillery in World War I. He remained in the reserve until 1950, gaining the rank of colonel.
