John Edwards memorial collection, 1959-1963.

Interviews with and music of Anglo-American early recording musicians A.C. ("Eck") Robertson (b. 1887), fiddler from Texas; Clayton McMichen (1900-1970), fiddler for the Skillet Lickers and other groups, from Georgia; Maybelle Carter (1909-1978), singer and guitarist for the Carter Family, from Virginia; Walter Bailes, early bluegrass singer; and Ernest Tubb (1914-1984), country musician from Texas. The artists discuss their music and play tunes. Ernest Tubb also gives a detailed description of the influence of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Rodgers on his music.

Clayton McMichen, who was born on January 26, 1900 in Allatoona, Georgia, began to play the fiddle when he was 11 years old. He began to gain notoriety on his instrument at fiddlers' conventions in the 1920s and on WSB radio.
