John Edwards memorial collection, ca. 1920s-1963.

Dubs of 78 rpm recordings of Fiddlin' John Carson, (1868-1949), Anglo-American oldtime fiddler of Cobb County, Ga., one of the first hillbilly recording stars, who fiddled on early radio broadcasts in the 1920s, at fiddlers conventions, and at political rallies, and who recorded on the Okeh and Bluebird labels. The recordings span his career from its beginnings in the 1920s through the 1930s, and cover a wide range of material, including traditional fiddle tunes, hillbilly numbers with his band the Virginia Reelers, and duets and skits with his daughter "Moonshine Kate". Rosa Lee ("Moonshine Kate") Carson (1909- ), John Carson's daughter, who played guitar and banjo on early recordings with her father, and accompanied him on numerous tours, is interviewed regarding the early days of recording for the Okeh label, and describes 1920s recording techniques, venues and tours; band members who played with John Carson; biographical information on John Carson, the elements of his style, and names of some of his recordings.
