John Edwards memorial collection, 1966.

Recording of an interview with Anglo-American early country performer John ("Johnny") Harvey Crockett, Jr., a member of the old-time musical group the Crockett Family. Other members of the Crockett Family were John Harvey Crockett, Sr., George, Clarence, Albert, Alan, Ethel, and Elnora. The Crockett Family were radio performers in the 1920s and 1930s, especially on WABC-New York and KNX-Los Angeles, and appeared in several motion pictures, including "San Francisco", "Secrets", and several Johnny Mack Brown westerns, providing as well the soundtracks for two Walter Lanz Oswald Rabbit cartoons. They also performed in blackface in minstrel shows and vaudeville acts during the 1930s. This recording contains brief biographies of the members of the Crockett Family, and documents their early career as performers in minstrel shows and vaudeville acts, and on various radio programs and in the movies. There is also a detailed discussion of each song the Crockett Family recorded, which gives the source of the song and the personnel on the recording.
