Rev. Dr Cecil Gill (a younger brother of Archdeacon Stephen Romney Gill who served in the Anglican mission in Papua from 1908 until 1952) was brought up and educated in England, served in the RAF during World War I, and was a POW in Austria and Italy. He completed medical training after the War at Edinburgh University and joined the Anglican mission in Papua as a medical missionary in 1926.
