Collection of miscellaneous papers mainly belonging to Sir Josiah Symon. It also includes some papers of two of his sons, Carril Symon and Charles J.B. Symon and his grandson, Charles C. Symon. The papers include correspondence, published speeches and addresses, addresses and personal writings, biographical and genealogical notes; printed material, invitations, menus and other items of ephemera, autograph books, photographs, KCMG medal and ribbon and a deed box.

Sir Josiah Symon, lawyer, politician and philanthropist, emigrated to South Australia from Scotland in 1866. He was admitted to the South Australian Bar in 1871 where he practised until 1923. In 1881 he entered state politics and from 1887 onwards became a strong supporter for Federation working as president of both the South Australian Federal League and the Commonwealth League and a member of the Australasian Federal Convention (1897-1898). Symon emigrated to South Australia from Scotland in 1866, studied law, admitted to S.A. Bar 1871 where he practised until 1923. Member S.A.
