Mike Horton sheet music. 1863-1918.

This collection consists of 15 pieces of sheet music published between 1863 and 1918. One piece titled "Siciliana" is hand-written music and words; the other hand-written piece is titled "Elegischer Gesang" by Beethoven. The most unusual sheet music in this collection is Stephen Foster's "Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming," copyright having been filed in 1863 in the Confederate Court for the Southern District of Georgia. It is on rag paper with a printed dedication: "to Miss Esther Elliot of Savannah, Ga." All of these pieces are dirty with soot. They were found in the renovation of the Citizens Bank/Sid Holderness building at the corner of Newnan Street and John Wesley Place, according to a letter in 2000 from Tom Richards to then-director of Ingram Library Charles Beard. The letter is included with the collection. Most pieces have been inscribed, the names including E(d) A. Werner, Bessie Weakley, J.P. Stevens, Joseph Maclean and Lester Briggs.
