Pierpont family papers, 1811-1941.

Contains materials from the Boardman, Crosby, McGlenen and Pierpont families ranging in date from 1811 to 1941. The collection consists of clippings, letters, genealogical notes, manuscript poems and journal entries, printed material, receipts, and a family record book. Of note are items once belonging to John Pierpont, Jr. and William Alston Pierpont, both sons of Rev. John Pierpont, including account books, catalogues of books, a journal, a scrapbook, and a theological school notebook. The remainder of this small collection documents the efforts made by various family members to record the history of the Pierpont family through memoirs and genealogies.

The Pierpont family traces its history in the United States back to 1640, when the Hon. John Pierpont and his wife, Thankful Stowe, settled in Massachusetts. There they purchased three hundred acres in Roxbury in 1656. Their son, James, attended Harvard, and later went on to become one of the founders of Yale College where he lectured to the students as a Professor of Moral Philosophy. His great grandson, Rev.
