Thanking him for an enclosure, and discussing the proper function of art: "every effort shd. be tried to promote good [good underlined] art, good [good underlined], as an intellectual and moral aid to our course of life--and I think that the limitation in our Institution does, or ought to contribute to this end, by stimulating men to great efforts, as a means of attaining the Station they desire."
