Saying that he will write the play for Lumley in London as promised if Donizetti will clothe it with the beauty of his music, that he must first know who is in the English company, that the musical authorities ("Maestri di musica") must be persuaded to allow as much time for the libretto to be well written as for the music Romani means the good librettists and not the scribblers on paper who, to Italy's misfortune, are flourishing like weeds, etc.
