Concerning Wilde's agreement to write a play [later entitled Lady Windermere's Fan]. The first letter begins, "I beg to acknowledge with thanks your check for £50 on account of fees for my play," and continues with a request for tickets for him and his wife to "the premiere of Call's play." The second letter thanks Alexander for the £50 and says, "I am very disappointed I have not been able to write the play" and saying that he will not have time until The Duchess of Padua goes on tour in America in September.
