Autograph letter signed : St. Maurice, to George Sand, 1857 Apr. 1.

With an assessment of his own work in the fields of both literature and art; having received unexpectedly a kind and laudatory letter from George Sand following the publication of his book Un Eté dans le Sahara, Fromentin hastens to disabuse her of any exaggerated sense of his talents and sets out in a somewhat self-deprecating tone his own view of his merits both as a writer and a painter.
